Finding Your Way

by Valarie Lovelight

When faced with a terminal illness, your first response might be to shut down because you are overwhelmed, it’s understandable but can’t stay there. At some point, you are going to have to start making decisions including who to share your diagnosis with. Telling no one will not make it go away. You can wait until you get a second opinion. It’s better to be sure if you are having doubts before you share. But when you know for sure, find someone to tell. Don’t struggle through this crisis in your life alone.

If you cannot tell your family right now, consider talking to a social worker, a counselor, or a support group. It’s never too early to find outside support. Just know that you should tell your family as soon as possible. Oftentimes, people get stressed and depressed when they try to work things out. Finding your way doesn’t mean doing it on your own. Although no one can find the right path for you, they can help you along the way. When you allow them to! Make the choice not to walk the path alone.

Hugs and Love!
